Janet Yale Of Telus Gives

Action-Logement / Action Housing A Boost



Ottawa, February 19, 2009: To raise much-needed funds to continue to better serve the community, Action-Logement / Action Housing is organizing its 5th Annual Benefit Cocktail on Tuesday, September 29, 2009. The organizers will also take the opportunity to mark the 20th anniversary of Action Housing / Housing Action.


 



Ms. Janet Yale, Executive Vice-President and National Chair of TELUS’ Community Boards, has graciously accepted the Honourary Chair of the cocktail and 20th anniversary celebrations of Action Housing / Action-Logement.  According to Ms. Yale : « Action Housing does such important work in our community, assisting Ottawa-area individuals and families find appropriate, affordable housing. I am personally dedicated to fighting the issue of homelessness in Ottawa and serve as Chair of the Leadership Table on Homelessness.  I was pleased to be named Honourary Chair of Action Housing’s 5th annual fundraising cocktail and look forward to working closely with Action Housing.  »

An active member of the Ottawa community, Janet is a member of the Board of the Great Canadian Theater Company, Business for the Arts, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, the Canadian Film Centre, the International Institute of Communications (IIC), the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and the TELUS Ottawa Community Board.

 

Janet has received several awards including the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, Woman of the Year 2001 by the the Canadian Women in Communications Organization, Women Business Person of the Year 2005 (business) by the Women's Business Network, Woman Leader of the Year 2006 by Federated Press Agency, Community Builder Volunteer of the Year 2008 by the United Way. In 2007, the Women's Executive Network (RFE) inducted Janet into its Hall of Fame.

 

Janet currently chairs the Leadership Forum on Homelessness at Centraide / United Way, an initiative in partnership with the City of Ottawa and the 2016 Foundation, which aims to develop a comprehensive strategy on housing and homelessness in the goal of ending chronic homelessness in Ottawa.

 

An Advisory Committee is working on ensuring a successful 2009 Cocktail, which should attract at least 200 people from housing and private sector community agencies.
