Ottawa Tenants Conference

 The 5th Ottawa Tenants Conference will be held at City Hall (in Andrew Haydon Hall) at 110 Laurier Avenue West on Saturday September 10th, 2011 from 9:30AM to 3:00PM (registration starts at 9:00AM.)  It is open to tenants who live on the private marketor reside in social rental housing.  The key goals of the conference are to provide practical information to tenants as well as address structural policy.  Along with workshops and guest speakers, there will be legal services available throughout the day to assist tenants with their specific problems, while the workshops provide an opportunity for smaller group discussions and networking.  Themes may include maintenance, rent increases, evictions, the Residential Tenancies Act and the Human Rights Code.

 

Admission is free and lunch is provided.  Bus tickets and a limited number of daycare subsidies are also available on a first come, first served basis.  In addition, each participant will receive a Tenant Kit which contains information about tenants' rights, issues and ressources available in Ottawa.
